Why is my transaction stuck in "Processing" or "Payment Initiated"?

What Processing and Payment Initiated mean on a Tazapay transaction and why it may not move forward.

When a transaction shows a status of Processing or Payment Initiated, it typically means that the payment has already been successfully initiated from Tazapay's side and is currently being processed by our downstream banking partner.

Here is what you should know:

  1. The payment has left Tazapay. Once a transaction is in "Processing" or "Payment Initiated," Tazapay has already sent the payment instruction to our downstream partner. No action is required from your side unless specifically requested.
  2. Processing times vary. Most payments are completed within the same business day or by the next business day. However, processing times can vary depending on the destination bank, currency corridor, and any additional review required by the beneficiary bank. Additionally, wire payments may experience delays during US bank holidays, such as Labor Day, even for non-US destinations, because intermediary banks based in the US follow US banking holidays and Federal Reserve processing typically resumes at 9 PM ET after the holiday. SWIFT USD payouts, both local and cross-border, are not processed on United States public holidays and will be processed on the next business day instead.
Note for GIRO payments: If your transaction is processed via GIRO, the beneficiary typically receives the funds on the same day, depending on their bank's processing times, but the status update in Tazapay's system takes T+2 working days to reflect. The "Processing" status does not necessarily mean the funds have not been delivered.

  3. MT103 and UETR availability. The MT103/pacs.008 message and associated UETR (Unique End-to-End Transaction Reference) may be generated and available while your payment is still in "Payment Initiated" status. The availability of these documents indicates that the payment is progressing through the downstream processing flow, but does not mean the payment has been completed. If your transaction is in "Payment Initiated" status and has a UETR, the payment may be undergoing mandatory checks at the partner bank level.
The COMPLETED webhook will be triggered separately once the payment is fully processed.
  4. Beneficiary or intermediary bank holds. In some cases, the payment may be placed on hold for internal review—either by the beneficiary bank or by a processing/intermediary bank. If your transaction is in "Payment Initiated" status and has a UETR (Unique End-to-End Transaction Reference), the payment may be undergoing mandatory checks at the partner bank level. We recommend that the beneficiary contact their bank directly to check the status and request expedited credit if possible.
  5. Returned transactions. If a transaction cannot be completed, it may be returned by the downstream partner. In such cases, once the funds are credited back to Tazapay's account, the payout status will be updated to Reversed and the funds will be returned to your account.
  6. Compliance review. Some transactions may be subject to an internal compliance review. If additional documentation is required, you will be notified via an RFI (Request for Information). Please respond promptly to any RFI to avoid delays. Documents can be submitted via the API.

If your transaction has been in a pending status for an extended period and you have not received an update, please contact Tazapay Support with your transaction ID so our team can follow up with the downstream partner on your behalf.
