Why did my payout fail or get rejected?

Common reasons a Tazapay payout fails or is rejected and how to send it again successfully.

There are several reasons why a payout may fail or be rejected. Below are the most common causes and recommended next steps for each:

Common Failure Reasons
  • Beneficiary bank rejection: The beneficiary bank may reject the payment without providing a specific reason. This can happen due to the bank's internal policies or processing issues. You may ask TazapaySupport to retry the payout, but we recommend that the beneficiary first confirms with their bank that they are able to receive the funds before retrying.
  • Wrong SWIFT/BIC code: The beneficiary SWIFT code provided may not be supported by our payment partner. Please verify the SWIFT code and update the beneficiary details before retrying.
  • Special characters in beneficiary name: If the beneficiary name contains special characters, the payout will fail. Please remove any special characters from the beneficiary name and retry.
  • Sanctions match: The payment may be rejected if the recipient's name matches or closely resembles an individual on a sanctions list. In such cases, the bank is unable to process the transaction.
  • Unclear payment purpose or invalid documents: If the purpose of the payment is not sufficiently clear, or if supporting documents (e.g., invoices) are expired or invalid, the payout may be rejected. Please ensure all documents are valid and the payment purpose is clearly stated. Re-initiating the payout via SWIFT may be required.
  • Downstream partner's internal policy: Some transactions may be rejected due to the downstream partner's internal policies. In these cases, the specific policy reason may not always be available.
  • Temporary technical issue at the beneficiary bank: A temporary technical issue at the beneficiary bank may cause the payment to fail. We recommend retrying the payment after some time. If the issue persists, ask the beneficiary to contact their bank for further assistance.
  • Beneficiary bank unavailable: The payment may be rejected if the beneficiary bank is temporarily unavailable. Please retry the payment after some time.
What to Do If Your Payout Is Rejected
  1. Check the payout status and failure reason on the Tazapay dashboard. Note that in some cases, only a generic error message may be displayed.
  2. If the failure reason is unclear, contact our support team with your Payout ID so we can investigate further with our downstream partner.
  3. If the payment is still in transit and the beneficiary has not received the funds, advise the beneficiary to contact their bank directly to check the status and request that the credit be prioritized.
  4. If the payout failed due to incorrect or unsupported beneficiary details (e.g., SWIFT code, special characters in name), correct the details and retry the payout. To avoid this in future you may try Tazamatch, our product to verify your payee before generating a payout
  5. If the payment was rejected by the beneficiary bank and funds need to be returned, the fastest option is for the beneficiary to instruct their bank to reject/return the incoming payment. Alternatively, you may request a recall (see below).
Requesting a Recall

If the funds have already been sent but need to be returned, you can request a recall. Please note the following:

  • A recall is subject to the approval of the beneficiary bank and/or intermediary bank.
  • Recalls may take 1–2 business weeks to process.
  • A recall fee of USD 70 applies per recall request.
  • The fastest way to return funds is for the beneficiary to instruct their bank to reject the incoming payment directly, rather than initiating a formal recall.
  • If the beneficiary bank does not respond to recall requests after multiple attempts, the beneficiary should contact their bank directly using the SWIFT recall details to coordinate the return of funds.
Requesting a Payment Tracer or Proof of Payment

If you need to trace a payment or obtain proof of payment (e.g., MT103), you can:

  • Check the Tazapay dashboard, where the MT103 is uploaded for reference.
  • Request a tracer to the beneficiary bank via our support team. Please note that a tracer fee of USD 50 applies per request.
  • For UETR (Unique End-to-End Transaction Reference) details, contact our support team with your Payout ID.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please reach out to our support team with your Payout ID and any relevant details.
